HOW TO MAKE JELLO EGGS

Here's what you need to make Easter Jello Eggs:

  • a Jello Egg mold (similar mold can be purchased here).  (This tutorial via Pinterest is a great DIY Easter Egg mold option, but it requires a lot more time and effort. )
  • water
  • 3 oz. boxes of Jello in your favorite flavors
  • sweetened condensed milk, optional

Jello Easter Egg Molds

Unfortunately, Jello egg molds are hard to find since they don't make them anymore. However, there are a few different options. The jello egg mold I have is no longer available. (I got it from the Jello website a few years ago.) However, you can still make these fun Easter jello treats by using this Jello mold:

To make it easier to transport and clean, place the egg molds on a cookie sheet.

STEP 2: MIX THE JELLO

FOR CLEAR COLORED EGGS

Boil 1 ½ cups water in a glass measuring cup. A few minutes in the microwave will do the trick.

Carefully pour 6 oz. Jello (one large box) into the boiling water. Be careful so that the hot Jello doesn't overflow.

Stir until completely dissolved.

FOR MILKY COLORED JELLO EGGS

Boil 1 cup water in a glass measuring cup. Stir in gelatin and mix until all the Jello powder is dissolved. Then pour in ½ cup sweetened condensed milk.

Tip: Boil water in a Pyrex glass measuring cup. Then it is easy to mix and pour directly into the molds.

STEP 3: POUR INTO MOLDS

Now you're ready to pour the Jello into the Easter egg molds.

ONE COLOR EGGS-QUICKEST METHOD

For eggs one color, fill up the egg mold to the very top. You can do each egg one color.

MULTI-COLORED/LAYERED EGGS

You can get really creative by making layered eggs. To do this, fill the egg mold ⅓ to ½ of the way full. Let this layer set for 30 minutes and then add more Jello to make another layer.

STEP 4: SET & CHILL

Jello eggs will take about 3 hours to set completely.

To open the molds, use a dull knife to seperate the top and bottom molds apart.

Slowly break the seal until you get the top open. Gently pull the egg from the mold.

Individually the wrap the Jello eggs in plastic wrap or place in an air-tight container until you are ready to eat.

Tip: Wrap the jello eggs in plastic wrap and keep refrigerated until you are ready to serve.

HOW TO SERVE JELLO EGGS

There are a few different ways you can serve Jello eggs.

Use them as part of your Easter Table  by placing them on a bed of dyed coconut for the grass affect.

Or serve them in a basket lined with grass for guests to pick their own. (Be sure to keep them wrapped if you use paper grass.)

Regardless, they are sure to please. Let me know what combinations you like! And how would you serve these Jello Eggs? Do tell!

  1. Prepare Jello egg molds by spraying the inside with a cooking spray and secure the 2 parts together. Set aside.

  3. Once boiling, stir the flavored gelatin into the water. Stir until completely dissolved.
  4. Carefully pour the Jello into the egg molds.
  5. Chill for 3-4 hours, or up to 4-5 days in advance.
  6. To remove the eggs from the mold, carefully use a dull knife to seperate the 2 sides of the mold apart. Slowly pull the top of the mold off, being careful not to break the eggs in half.
  7. Eat immediately or store in an air-tight container up to 4-5 days.

Notes

To make milky colored eggs, use 1 cup boiling water per 6 oz. gelatin. After the jello has dissolved in the water completely, stir in ½ cup sweetened condensed milk. Fill the egg molds and let set.
